Cohere, an AI startup, purchases Ottogrid, a market research platform
Exciting news coming from the AI world! Cohere, an innovative firm, has claimed Ottogrid, a unique Canadian platform that specializes in creating tools that help simplify difficult market research jobs.
On Friday, Ottogrid's co-founder, Sully Omar, expressed his exhilaration in a post on X - he remained mum about the specifics of the deal, though.

Though the sun is setting on Ottogrid's product, Omar assures customers there will be ample time given to smoothly transition to the new arrangement.
Omar is eagerly awaiting Ottogrid's integration into Cohere's platform. "Together with Cohere, we're set to drastically transform how people automate tasks, enhance their data, and scale their operations," Omar stated in a statement. We're still waiting on Cohere for their comment.
However, Cohere hasn't been without its troubles. According to The Information, they fell quite short of their revenue expectations for last year, with a difference of about 85% from what they had previously planned in 2023.
Despite these challenges, Cohere is back stronger, relaying to Reuters on Thursday that they've recently reached the $100 million mark in annual revenues, all thanks to a strategic turnaround in rolling out AI solutions in diverse sectors like health, governance, and finance.
In 2023, Ottogrid started its journey as Cognosys under the leadership of Omar and Homam Malkawi. It rebuilt in October 2024 and launched a number of new products, APIs, and links.
Ottogrid is famous for its “native table interface" that melds AI-powered document analysis capabilities. For instance, it allows users to extract data from websites and save it directly into a spreadsheet, among other tasks.
Before its acquisition, Ottogrid secured $2 million in venture capital from investors like GV (Google Ventures), Aidan Gomez and Ivan Zhang (Cohere's co-founders), and more as shared by Crunchbase.
With the Cohere union, Omar revealed Ottogrid's primary focus will be on North, Cohere's recently launched ChatGPT-styled application, to support knowledge workers in tasks like document summarization.
Updated 2:03 p.m. Pacific: In a recent statement, Cohere’s energetic CEO Aidan Gomez said: “It's great to welcome Ottogrid’s talented team aboard, and we're keen on integrating Ottogrid’s product directly into North. This means a new, smarter approach for enterprises to tackle research, making employees' everyday tasks more enjoyable and productive."
