Google and Warby Parker spent $150M to developing AI glasses

Google has declared that it will earmark a whopping $150 million to partner with hip eyewear brand Warby Parker to create AI-induced intelligent glasses that work alongside Android XR. This exciting news was dropped during Google’s most-awaited event, the I/O 2025.

So far, Google has generously invested $75 million in Warby Parker to give wings to their product development and marketing aspects. Legends have it that Google is set to pump in another cool $75 million if Warby Parker hits certain predetermined performance indicators; this would reinstate Google as an equity partner in the company. Check out the full press release for more details.

The Google I/O 2025 was exceptionally newsworthy with Google announcing their collaborations with several big names in the industry to construct highly advanced smart glasses decked out with Gemini AI and AR capabilities. Some notable mentions are Samsung and Gentle Monster.

If you've been paying attention, you'll notice that Google seems to be drawing inspiration from Meta’s shine in the smart glasses arena. Their lucrative bond with Ray-Ban maker EssilorLuxottica, which gave birth to highly sought-after smart glasses, underpins Meta's success. They owe their triumph to their smart glasses' charming, down-to-earth design that are up for grabs at Ray-Ban stores. This alliance between Warby Parker and Google could perfectly mirror that success given Warby Parker’s hit frame designs and possible retail store access.

The joint statement from Warby Parker and Google promises a number of new items in the works. With multimodal AI built into both prescription and non-prescription options, its first line of smart eyewear is expected to be released after 2025. Get ready, the future promises to be bright!
