Google wants to learn more about you, Gemini
In a fierce competition to gain more traction in the AI chatbot space, Google is giving its Gemini chatbot apps a distinct advantage. Presenting Gemini with personalization, a fascinating new feature that uses other Google services and apps to deliver tailored answers.
Unveiled last Thursday, this experimental capability extracts from users' varied activities and preferences across Google's digital universe to mold unique answers to inquiries. This is all in the grand scheme for Gemini to feel less like a machine, and more like an intuitive assistant who understands and anticipates your needs, just as Gemini's proud product director, Dave Citron, describes it.

Gemini will be first integrating with Google Search before extending its reach to other Google services like Google Photos and YouTube over the coming months. Amid all this, competitors like OpenAI hustle to make their own chatbots distinctive and attractive by offering exclusive features. The strength of Gemini with customisation comes from Google's clever Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental AI model. Dave Citron explains how it skillfully considers personal data from Google services, like your Search history, to elevate answers to your queries. This is particularly impactful when answering specific questions moulded by personal likes and dislikes.

Google has wisely made Gemini with personalization an opt-in, and it will not be offered to users under 18 years old. Like any good assistant, Gemini will request your consent before linking to your Google Search history and other apps, and it will show you the data sources used for its personalized responses.

Get ready to try out Gemini with personalization as it rolls out on the web for Gemini users (Google Workspace and Google for Education customers excluded) starting this week. It will slowly be made available on mobile platforms later. This exciting new feature will also be extended to more than 40 languages and most countries, excluding the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the U.K.
To keep users engaged, Google is also launching updated models, advanced research possibilities, and app connectors for the Gemini platform.Flash Thinking Experimental 2.0 is now available as a stand-alone app for Gemini Advanced subscribers. The upgraded model should perform faster, be more efficient, and handle prompts with more agility.
In light of the new research tools rolled out by OpenAI, Google has also upgraded its Deep Research feature, offering higher quality, more detailed, and insightful reports. Deep Research is now available to all Gemini users for free. Free Gemini users can also now use Google's topic-focused customizable chatbots, Gems. All these enhancements solidify Google's commitment to evolve, experiment, and embrace user feedback in its journey to keep Gemini at the peak of AI chatbots.
