Sora's video generator will be included to ChatGPT by OpenAI
OpenAI is brewing something exciting! The tech firm has revealed plans to integrate its AI video generation tool, Sora, into its highly appreciated consumer chatbot app ChatGPT. The secret sauce was revealed during a recent meet-up on Discord.
As of now, the path to Sora is through a specialized web application inaugurated by OpenAI in December. Sora, with its capabilities of producing up to 20-seconds of AI-generated videos, shines with potential. Future ideas to expand Sora's creative capabilities and put it in more user-friendly environments are discussed by Rohan Sahai, OpenAI's product lead for Sora.
On its debut, Sora was marketed as an innovative solution suited for creative minds and video production studios. However, OpenAI is now determined to extend its reach by making the AI video creation tool appealing to a wider audience.
Sahai shared that there are ongoing efforts to make Sora available within ChatGPT, though he held back on giving a specific timeline. He hinted that the integration of Sora into ChatGPT might not match the complete user control currently available on the dedicated web app, where editing and splicing of footage is possible.
In the strategic move of adding Sora to ChatGPT, OpenAI is potentially luring more users towards the chatbot and might encourage them to opt for its premium subscription offering elevated video generation limits.
Sahai emphasized that the original idea to launch Sora as a unique web app was propelled by a desire to uphold the straightforwardness of ChatGPT.
In the backdrop of its successful launch, OpenAI has been working tirelessly on augmenting Sora's web experience and providing more avenues for users to explore Sora-propelled creations from the community. There's even a buzz around the possibility of a standalone Sora mobile app, with the company scouting for mobile engineers to turn the vision into a reality.
In addition, OpenAI is pushing the envelope by aiming to enhance Sora's creation abilities to incorporate visuals.
Sahai refuted theories by confirming that OpenAI is working on an AI image generator that uses Sora. He reasoned that such an invention could allow users to create extremely lifelike photos, even though image generation is already supported by OpenAI’s DALL-E 3 model in the ChatGPT app.
Finally, the wheels are also in motion for an improved version of Sora Turbo, the model currently fuelling the Sora web app.
