TensorWave gets $100M to grow its cloud infrastructure powered by AMD

Get ready to experience the power of TensorWave, an extraordinary data center provider that's creating state-of-the-art facilities with AMD hardware at its core. They've recently secured a whopping $100 million in funding, which will help propel their mission to build a robust data center infrastructure. The new investment round, sponsored by big giants like AMD Ventures and Magnetar, has increased their total cash to an astounding $146.7 million. This piece of news comes straight from Crunchbase, with Maverick Silicon, Nexus Venture Partners, and Prosperity7 also joining in for this funding ride.

Now, it's not completely smooth sailing for data center projects out there. Factors like tariff-induced cost escalations on key components might lead to a spike in the total construction costs for data centers - anywhere between 5% to 15%. This news flash came from an in-depth analysis done by TD Cowen. Investors worry about possible overcapacity issues as a result of the rapidly expanding access to affordable AI services. Such concerns have been big influencer in the delay of OpenAI's ambitious $500-billion Stargate data center project.

Despite these industry-wide hurdles, TensorWave has continued to thrive. According to this corporation situated in Las Vegas, Nevada, business is still booming. They're eyeing year-end run-rate revenue that exceeds $100 million, which would mean a 20x increase from the previous year. That's what you call a growth story! Thanks to their early adoption of AMD and offering affordable cloud services, they've managed to carve a strong niche for themselves.

Around 8,000 AMD Instinct MI325X GPUs have already been deployed by TensorWave in a "dedicated training" cluster. This latest investment will give them the boost they need to expand this cluster, add to their workforce, and fuel more growth - so says CEO Darrick Horton.

TensorWave presently manages a team of more than 40 experienced staff, with plans to bring that number up to 100 by the end of the year.

The $100 million funding drives TensorWave's goal of making modern AI technology available to all. Their growing cluster of 8,192 Instinct MI325X GPUs is only the beginning of their journey to establish themselves as formidable leaders in the Irish AI infrastructure industry, powered by AMD.

There are other players in the data center space betting on AMD's AI chips including startups like Lamini and Nscale, and bigger, established cloud providers like Azure and Oracle.

TensorWave was brought to life in 2023 by a trio of tech enthusiasts - Darrick Horton, Jeff Tatarchuk, and Piotr Tomasik. Horton and Tomasik have both built profitable businesses in the past, and Tatarchuk has experience working with Horton to build cloud provider VMAccel and selling Lets Rolo, another startup, to digital recognition firm LifeKey.
